YPF ACT/NSW

The first event NSW YPF held was on 5 September 2006 at the University of NSW. Speakers from OneSteel, Worley Parsons, AJ Lucas and many Alinta people provided support and shared their experiences with the students about career opportunities in the pipeline industry.
April 2007 saw NSW YPF double the size of its contact list. On 12 and 13 April, 20 YPFers from around Australia visited Wollongong to tour the facilities of BlueScope Steel, APC Socotherm, OneSteel, Orrcon and Bredero Shaw. During this visit the YPFers also attended the Sydney APIA dinner, an excellent networking opportunity. BlueScope provided the transport to and from Sydney.
The Wollongong tour allowed the YPFers to see pipes being made, right from the casting of the steel all the way through to the coated product. NSW YPF co-ordinator, Mark Dragar, stood in for APIA and managed the tour on the ground, meeting people at Sydney airport and making sure all were at the bus in time to attend the various venues. This was a tremendous opportunity to invest in the industry’s future “experts” and help to ensure that the younger members of the industry see the benefits of a long career in the pipeline industry.
NSW YPF aims to increase its member base and continue to provide opportunities for younger members to get to know others in the industry. Guided by senior members, NSW YPF hopes to provide a platform for its members to grow professionally, technically and socially.
